So you are using phpBB or planning to use phpBB? but you're looking for useful information about things like apache, mySQL, php etc because you want to install it locally to test your stuff ... well, this topic is where we offer you a list of recommended websites concerning everything indirectly related to phpBB. We don't offer support on any of the products mentioned, but we can of course tell you where to get it. So here is the list:

Apache

http://httpd.apache.org - the official apache webserver website, note that only 1.3.x works with phpBB (update: phpBB works fine with the latest version of PHP and Apache 2 - Techie-Micheal)

hosting

this article used to contain links to 'recommended hosts', both free and paid shared hosting and server hosting / dedicated servers. we have decided to remove these links because a lot of hosts either had problems reported against them, had their servers reconfigured so that phpBB didn't run that well anymore, or other things either had arisen or could arise.

www.phpbb.com is for information on phpBB. the sites listed above are pointing to sites with related information, and so will this piece of the article. phpBB can not keep track of all hosts available, but there are sites that can. so if you are looking for a hosting provider, please check one or more of the following sites:

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/
http://www.freewebspace.net/
http://www.hostsearch.com/
http://www.talkhosting.com/
